First Lady Laura Bush has endorsed the Cry of the Orphan Campaign.
Paul Pennington heads Hope for Orphans, one of several sponsoring organizations for the campaign. "The purpose of this campaign is to raise awareness among the Body of Christ about God's heart for orphans and how as individuals, families, and churches, they can be engaged to make a difference in the lives of these kids and for the gospel," he explains. Pennington notes the need is not simply domestic. "There's [sic] 130 million orphans around the world, and there's [sic] about 500,000 kids in the United States in foster care," he adds. "We believe that all of those children fall into the scope of what the Lord says in James 1:27." First Lady Bush has recorded a public service announcement that can be heard at CryoftheOrphan.org.
